World-Ending Stakes: 3 Thrillers (‘Interceptor’, ‘Bird Box’, ’10 Cloverfield Lane’)

Date:

For viewers who like their thrillers to have the highest stakes possible—namely, the end of the world—these three films on Netflix and Prime Video are perfect. They explore global catastrophes from very different angles.
First, Interceptor on Netflix delivers a high-stakes military action thriller. Elsa Pataky stars as an Army Captain on a remote missile defense base. When terrorists steal Russian nuclear weapons, she becomes the last person standing between the U.S. and total annihilation.
Next, Bird Box, also on Netflix, presents a terrifying apocalyptic scenario. Sandra Bullock stars as a mother trying to survive in a world where mysterious entities cause instant suicide upon being seen. Her blindfolded journey to safety is a masterclass in survival horror.
On Prime Video, 10 Cloverfield Lane offers a more ambiguous apocalypse. A woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up in a bunker, told by her “rescuer” (John Goodman) that a catastrophic event has made the outside world uninhabitable. The suspense builds as she questions if the real threat is outside or inside.
If you prefer your thrills more grounded, you can also stream the gritty crime drama Havoc (Netflix), the spy thriller Black Bag (Prime Video), the psychological Saltburn (Prime Video), or the obsessive The Occupant (Netflix).
