Boeing Secures Major 37-Jet Order from Central Asia

Boeing has secured a major new order from Central Asia, with three nations committing to purchase up to 37 airplanes. The deal, announced by the Trump administration, includes Kazakhstan’s Air Astana, Tajikistan’s Somon Air, and Uzbekistan Airways. This sale reinforces Boeing’s presence in the region and highlights a significant investment in fleet modernization by the carriers.
The largest part of the order comes from Air Astana, which plans to acquire 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This move will dramatically expand its long-haul capabilities. Somon Air is set to purchase a mixed fleet of 14 aircraft, including four 787s and ten 737 MAX models. Uzbekistan Airways will add eight more 787 Dreamliners to its fleet.
The Commerce Department presented the agreements as a major victory for American business, directly linking the sales to the administration’s foreign policy objectives. The announcement was strategically made during the C5+1 Summit in Washington, a meeting of leaders from the five Central Asian republics and the UnitedS. This setting underscored the administration’s transactional approach to diplomacy.
For the airlines, these new aircraft are transformative. Air Astana, which currently flies three older Boeing 767s, will use its new 787s to launch new services, including, for the first time, routes to North America. This represents a monumental step in the carrier’s global expansion.
This Central Asian deal is part of a broader trend under the Trump administration, where Boeing orders are frequently intertwined with diplomatic negotiations and trade announcements. While this 37-plane deal is significant, the aviation industry remains focused on even larger potential agreements, such as ongoing talks for a 500-jet sale to China.
