Việt Nam and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) have outlined plans to enhance collaborative efforts among Hà Nội, Ho Chi Minh City, and Canberra. This decision emerged from discussions between Vietnamese Ambassador Phạm Hùng Tâm and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr. During these talks, Ambassador Tâm conveyed his optimism about Barr’s forthcoming visit to Hà Nội and Ho Chi Minh City, predicting that it would unlock new avenues for cooperation.

The ambassador emphasized the promising prospects for partnerships in areas such as renewable energy, innovation, education, tourism, and smart urban development. He also suggested forming a friendship and cooperation agreement between Hà Nội and the ACT to ensure enduring collaboration across various sectors.

Marking his first visit to Việt Nam, Chief Minister Barr acknowledged the country’s importance as a priority economic partner for the ACT within its international engagement strategy. He expressed support for the idea of establishing a sister-city relationship with Hà Nội, highlighting the potential for joint efforts in green transition, electric transport, and renewable energy initiatives. These collaborations aim to assist in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Additionally, Barr indicated his readiness to engage in public diplomacy activities during future visits by senior Vietnamese officials to Australia. This commitment underscores the shared intent of both regions to foster stronger bilateral ties and explore opportunities that benefit their communities.
